Junior High Intramural Athletics Program

The Gilbert Public Schools Junior High Intramural Athletics Program is designed to give every student an opportunity to stay active, develop skills, and remain connected to their school community—regardless of the outcome of competitive team tryouts.

Traditional school athletics often have roster limitations that can prevent students from participating. Our intramural program provides a positive alternative for students who do not make a competitive team, helping them continue developing their skills while building confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a lifelong connection to athletics.

The program will be offered at every junior high campus throughout the school year, with a different sport featured each quarter:

1st Quarter: Indoor Futsal
2nd Quarter: Basketball
3rd Quarter: Flag Football/Basketball
4th Quarter: Flag Football/Volleyball

What to Expect

Each 7-week session combines skill development, practice, competition, and a culminating championship experience. Students will begin by building fundamental skills and participating in intersquad play before progressing into organized league competition, campus playoffs, and a final championship tournament.

The goal is simple: more students playing, developing, competing, and staying connected to their school community.

Whether your student is new to the sport, looking to improve their skills, or simply wants another opportunity to compete, the Junior High Intramural Athletics Program provides a welcoming pathway to stay involved in athletics throughout the school year.

Program Details

Program Length: 7 weeks per sport
Eligibility: Coed and open to students who do not make the competitive school team, as well as students preparing for an upcoming athletic season
Registration: Students register through Rank One and complete the required participation information
Program Fee: Same as the standard Junior High participation fee
Staffing: One coach per campus
Transportation: District transportation is not provided. Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from practices and any off-campus competitions.
